The Natural History Museum Rotterdam is run by a non-profit foundation and is financially supported by the Rotterdam city council. It is a medium sized museum with two departments: the museum (that runs the exhibitions, welcomes the public and maintains the collection) and the Rotterdam Urban Ecology Unit that studies the flora and fauna of the Rotterdam area and also does commercial work advising on ecological aspects of property development and urban planning.
